Not Just Music…

Memories

Process

I call it “Not Just Music...Memories”. The challenge was to create a musical experience through a music box set. I based this set on my memories with my brothers playing Guitar Hero as kids. I created plenty of sketches to figure out how I was going to design and put together the box and disks.

The Box

The box was constructed using bookboard and wrapped in black book cloth. The top piece is the first part of the title “Not Just Music...Memories”. It was embossed with a copper color. The inside of the box lifts as it is opened. The albums fit comfortably inside. They were layered on top of each other in a way so that all of the playlist names were seen.

The Albums

The albums are named after my siblings and me. My two older brothers chose their favorite songs to play on Guitar Hero and that become their playlist. I did the same. The covers consist of what mode they played as kids.

The Book

The book was covered in the same material as the box. The title is the continuation of the title on the box. The pattern used in the system of this box set is a photo of my mom and my oldest brother. The beginning of the book was written by me explaining what this box is about. Throughout the book, I used old photography I found of my family.
