“Mom Said…”
My mom had always said “We have food at home” when we asked to stop at a McDonald's or Burger King or whatever fast food we were craving as kids. We never understood why. Now as adults mom hopes we understand. This project tackles the coffee problem. Not the addiction to coffee but the addiction to buying coffee at a cafe. My goal was to minimize that bad habit by creating an intervention and narrative. We have coffee at home.
Intervention
It was important to create a constant reminder to the user for the intervention. How can we prevent people from wasting their money on coffee shops?

Phone Wallets
I created phone wallets that allow a person to really think about their decision before making an unnecessary purchase. They are meant to create a reminder similar to what mom used to say in the car.
Narrative
This project couldn’t just be about a phone case. I decided that a little insight on the subject of finances and coffee was necessary. An interactive iPad app was created to put things into perspective.
Perspective
Screens like this allow the user to physically see how much money they spend on coffee. By using the scroll bar they place money in the cup, showing how much they spend.

…
These screens compare how much coffee costs at a cafe versus making a cup at home.

Investing in Your Savings
A long scrolling screen of money saved from making a single cup of coffee at home shows a possible investment opportunity.
