AR Post Cards

Living in Boston has been an amazing experience. I often found myself wanting to share my experiences with friends and family. So how can I share my Boston adventures with the people I care about without having them be by my side? I created postcards that a person can pick up at the location they chose to experience. The person can buy the postcards and send them to anybody they choose. The receiver can then experience the same adventure in AR.

Building 3D Models

The Nomad Sculpt App was used to build 3D models. Although I had never used this program before, it came semi-easily to me and felt like molding clay. The challenge was creating a 3D model that wasn’t too detailed. This was important to create a smaller file size. A smaller file size made it easier to add skins on third-party sites. It also makes CabinAR run smoother for a faster AR experience.

The Final Look

The Final Product consists of three AR cards with Boston locations. The cards are tucked away in plastic packaging. Each package contains one card and one map to find more cards to experience within that general location.

  • QR Code

Every card has a QR code on the back. All the receiver has to do is scan the QR code to experience what is in front of the card. The QR code sends the person to the CabinAR App. There they can scan the marker which is the front of the card. Then the experience can begin.

  • Find More

Each card comes with an additional card that shows a map on the back of where you can find more cards to experience.

The Cards

Three places were covered in the postcards. The cards were designed by me and printed on watercolor paper to really hone in on the watercolor effect.
